Current Donations: $1221.79 (see Part One update)
It’s that time of year again. Time for spending money on things other than that new mod you wanted! But it is also a time when we are grateful for the many things we have. So how about joining your fellow LX'ers in giving a little back to those far less fortunate? We're accomplishing this in Two Parts.
Part One is to bring some holiday spirit to children.
All funds collected now through Dec 14th will go to the Marine’s Toys for Tots program (www.toysfortots.org) (http://www.toysfortots.org%29). “The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.”
We are closing out this donation window early to give our proud Marine's enough time to put our donation to good use this Holiday Season. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the Toys for Tots program, alone.
We will move to Part two of the drive when this goal is reached or we hit the stated deadline; whichever comes first.
Update: On 12/16/06 a check for $4865.58 was turned over to the Toys for Tots Program at Cecil Raceway (http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=48984)
Part Two is to help those regions as indicated by the forums and runs 15 December through January 31th.
The Top 6 Regions who raise the most funds overall will be given a check for one-sixth of the total collected. The regions are the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Great Lakes, Great Plains, Northwest, Southwest, California, Texas and Hawaii. Make sure to include your Screen Name & Region with your check or PayPal donation. We are looking for regional members to come forward to handle this aspect of the drive! Each regions will choose its own organization they wish to assist (http://www.charitynavigator.org) and the only requirement is that the selected organization must be a certified non-profit organization due to tax laws. The checks will be given to a member of that region to hand over to the organization at a M&G of their design or choosing. Part Two of this drive will end on Jan 31st. The goal is to raise over $6,000 in funds nationally. If we meet our initial $6,000 goal, we will add an extra region to the dispersment list for every additional $1,000 raised. The region that raises the most will also receive a valuable prize to be raffled off at their M&G.
Update:
We have decided to change Part Two of this charity drive. We are going to raise money for the Victory Junction Gang Camp (http://www.victoryjunction.org/aa_home/index.html). This camp is a part of the Association of Hole in the Wall Gang Camps which is a not-for-profit umbrella organization that serves existing Hole in the Wall Camps as well as camps in formation. The association assists member camps in extending unique recreational and therapeutic camping experiences to children throughout the world free of charge. It cost approx. $2500 for a camper per week. The goal is to send 2 children or more to camp. For those NASCAR fans...this is the camp that the Petty family set up in memory of their son, Adam, after his death in 2000. This camp mission is: "The Victory Junction Gang Camp enriches the lives of children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun, and empowering, in a safe and medically sound environment." "Victory Junction is a year-round camp that serves children, ages 7 to 15, with a variety of health issues. During the summer we offer week long disease specific sessions with up to 125 kids per session. During the Fall, Winter and Spring we offer family weekends with up to 32 families per weekend.
The children we serve may have any of the following health issues:
arthritis, asthma, cancer, epilepsy, hemophilia, immunology deficiencies/HIV, sickle cell disease, spina bifida, gastrointestinal disease, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, neurological disease, skin disease, burn survivors, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, autism, craniofacial anomalies, physical disabilities, kids on vents, transverse myelitis."
