View Full Version : Performance Parts

My post is to address the few mods people are considering and my past experiences with Performance Parts Vendors on my Buick Grand National. First, every vendor owned and raced this car or other cars using their race related parts. This always proves the performance gains and or any downsides to each part, many either dyno tested or race tested and advertised the results. Second, several sold parts that improved performance from mild to wild, some called them Stages. So my point is this: trying unproven parts just waste money and time as some have found out. The same rule should apply to the SRT vehicles or whatever. I'm not going to buy any unproven parts from any Vendor that doesn't own a SRT Vehicle using their Parts and tested fully! This is my Opinion Only and isn't meant to Flame Anybody or Vendor. Gene :Racing:

Right On SRT8JEEP. I too am from the Buick Turbo community and what you are saying is absolutely true. My suggestion for all SRT8 owners is wait before they purchase and let the vendors prove their products work by either documented drag strip times and videos or Dyno results. Another way is to let someone else buy the product and wait until they comment if the product did or did not work. I am sure that someone will get impatient and try the product first. There are some vendors in this club that seem rather impressive to me and others that I think are big B.S.'s. I get very leary when members on this forum ask for dyno results time after time from the same vendors and these vendors always come up with an excuse why they didn't get a chance to dyno the vehicle. I for one will not make the same mistake that I made and others have made in the Buick Turbo community. This time I will wait until the particular products that I am interested in are PROVEN. As far as these Group Buys go, let them do the numbers first, then have the Group Buy. If their product actually works and is proven to work, I am sure they will be bombarded with sales for the Group Buy. Sorry to ramble on guys but I for one get a little P----d Off on wasting hard earned money on and does not work. Just my .02 cents. Rich

I agree somewhat with the things stated above but there are some points that I would like to make. Some simple mods, like CAIs & cat-backs, are all pretty close in performance gains if you stick with the major manufacturers. At best there might be a 2-3% variance in HP/TQ gains between the leaders. After all, the design used is pretty basic & nobody has an over-the-top, knock-em-dead design that is lightyears ahead of everyone else.
As far as dyno numbers go, I'm afraid that the GC is at a severe disadvantage. A 4 wheel dyno is required to accurately do dyno pulls on our vehicles. These dynos are out there but not every manufacturer has one. There is a substantial cost difference between a 2 wheel & 4 wheel dyno, so I don't expect to see dyno results available like they are on 2 wheel drive vehicles. Also, what if a dyno result is posted by a manufacturer for his product that shows a performance gain. HOWEVER, another manufacturer that DOESN"T have dyno results actually makes more power. Which would you rather have?
And finally, if we all wait for someone else to pioneer the mods, how will we ever get any idea of what works? We need guys to step up to the plate & take one for the home team. Otherwise, we will all be bone stock come this time next year.
I have less than 600 miles on my GC & my Mopar CAI will be delivered tomorrow & my Magnaflow cat-back ships Friday. I am dealing with SRT8 Tuning on a PCM reflash in the very near future. I hope to be able to give some dragstrip feedback on these mods since there isn't a 4 wheel dyno anywhere close to my home.
I've been a guinea pig many times in the past but, hey, somebody's gotta do it.

Agreed.... Also, if someone is going to be a guinea pig for a specific vendor, the vendor needs to step up and put in writing that the vendor will pay for any and ALL repair costs if the part caused a problem. IMO.
